Online counseling, also referred to as Distance Counseling, Telehealth, Video Counseling, Virtual Counseling, and *Skype Counseling is a widely accepted tool for those seeking therapy. Online counseling can be used for both indiviudals and couples. *Skype is not HIPAA compliant, which is why it is never recommended for use when sharing sensitive clinical information.
Video counseling is perfect for those who:
Like traditional therapy, talking online is face to face and sessions are kept confidential by using a secure and encrypted HIPAA compliant platform. As long as you have a front facing camera on your phone, tablet, or computer, you can take advantage of online counseling. Most clients appreciate the ease of access, avoiding commute time, parking issues, having to take time out of work and/or finding child care.
Although there are many benefits of video counseling, there are also risks and it is not always a good match for everyone. If you are interested in learning more about video counseling and if it's the right fit for you, feel free to email me at Rachael@Lifeinformedtherapy.com
